Best Childcare Techniques
Summerfield Nursery School operates
on a four term structure.
All our classrooms are fully equipped with age appropriate toys, both construction and fantasy, as well as book corners and perceptual games. This dynamic environment provides each child with the opportunity to learn through play.
Activities for Children of Any Age
Science
Science Mondays are a blast as we experiment and discuss the reactions that take place. Science is extremely important as it builds children’s curiosity and helps them understand the world around them.
Show and Tell
Show and Tell takes place on Tuesday mornings, and children are required to bring something from home related to the theme to show the class. This builds their confidence as they speak in front of their peers and enhances their learning.
Messy Play
Messy Play is definitely a favorite. On Wednesdays, the children are given delightful, sensory-stimulating ingredients to have some fun with. They can explore textures, mix colors, and unleash their creativity, all while engaging their senses and developing fine motor skills.
Baking
Baking Every Friday is baking day! Our little chefs get to bake theme-related treats, from cookies to cupcakes. The children enjoy mixing, measuring, and decorating their goodies, which they proudly take home to enjoy. It’s a fun and tasty way to end the week, fostering creativity and a sense of accomplishment!
Birthday Rings
Birthday Rings Birthdays are very special and are celebrated during ring time. Parents are asked to please arrange a suitable date with the teacher well in advance to avoid clashing with others. We will ask you to provide a cake or cupcakes for the class to make the occasion extra special.
Extra Murals
Extra Murals These are optional activities that take place during school hours. At the beginning of every year, we have a variety of extra mural demonstrations where parents can choose to sign up. If we have enough interest in any of the extra activities on offer, we will accommodate these extra murals.

Terrific Teddies Class (4 months – 2 years)
Welcome to our Terrific Teddies Class, where we create a warm and nurturing environment for our littlest learners. Our dedicated classroom and exclusive playground provide a safe haven, while also allowing access to our larger playground for added exploration and fun.
We understand that early development is vital, and we are committed to providing a stimulating experience that goes beyond basic care. Since babies can’t yet express their needs verbally, our loving caregivers are dedicated to understanding and responding to each child’s unique cues, ensuring they feel cherished and secure.
Every child is different, and we celebrate their individuality by encouraging growth at their own pace. With a focus on unconditional love and emotional support, we strive to make every child feel happy, safe, and content from day one. Delightful Dino’s Class (turning 3)
Welcome to our Delightful Dino’s Class, where we embrace the excitement and curiosity that come with being mobile! As children transition from babyhood, we maintain some familiar comforts to ensure a smooth and joyful adjustment. Our classroom features a variety of engaging equipment and teaching techniques designed to stimulate their growing minds.
We prioritize age-appropriate play equipment and encourage exploration at each child’s own pace, allowing them to discover the world around them. The spacious, sunny classroom includes a dedicated bathroom for nappy changing and potty training, ensuring convenience and comfort.
Our activities are thoughtfully designed to engage all senses, incorporating plenty of sensory and tactile experiences. With a structured daily routine, we ensure ample time for play, exploration, and learning, nurturing each child’s development in a supportive and caring environment. Brilliant Bunnies Class (turning 4)
Welcome to our Brilliant Bunnies Class, a vibrant and engaging environment designed for our energetic little learners! At this stage, children thrive on interaction and need ample stimulation through structured play and learning experiences.
As they begin to embrace a more set routine in preparation for the next phase, our Brilliant Bunnies are offered guided activities that promote self-confidence and independence, all under the gentle supervision of caring teachers who provide help, guidance, and encouragement when needed.
While we introduce a more formal school setting, our beloved approach of “learning through play” remains at the heart of our philosophy. We believe that happiness fuels learning, so we ensure plenty of joyful experiences. Our daily routine includes numerous gross motor activities, along with music and movement, creating a dynamic atmosphere. Sensory and tactile activities are particularly cherished, allowing children to cook, mix, squish, and explore through delightful messy play. Happy Hedgehogs Class (turning 5)
Welcome to our Happy Hedgehogs Class, a vital stage in your child’s educational journey as we prepare them for the Outstanding Owls class. In this class, children engage in foundational lessons such as Letterland and Numeracy while still enjoying creative activities like painting, play dough, and messy play.
We recognize the importance of hands-on learning, where children explore concepts through active play. To enhance understanding, we utilize manipulatives as teaching tools, allowing kids to engage in practical experiences that help them absorb information more effectively than traditional methods. Our classroom is equipped with a variety of apparatus designed to develop fine and gross motor skills, eye-hand coordination, pincer grip, and an understanding of shapes, colors, and senses.
We prioritize each child’s unique needs, recognizing that not all children learn at the same pace or in the same way. Our approach ensures that children fully grasp each concept before moving on, providing additional support as needed until they feel confident and secure in their understanding.
